Die Cut Rank Badges

It is believed that this set of patches was issued in 1954. For years, mothers had turned under the extra material around many scout badges for ease of sewing and for looks. These die cut badges were possibly an attempt to remedy that problem and make the patches look nice on the uniform. It is not known for sure why or when they were made except to say it was before 1955. That was the year (1955) when the ranks Tenderfoot through Star were cut as rectangles with embroidered stitched borders, Life was cut to shape and Eagle was made with a rolled border.

These rank badges are not listed in the catalogs to which I have access. I was fortunate enough to scan this set of rank patches from Albertus Hoogeveen, Orange County Council, CA. He has had them in his collection for many years and is glad to share.
